Stefanie Goggins, LPC-S
Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor
Stefanie Goggins is a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor (LPC-S), who has worked in mental health and social work since 2013. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Troy University in 2012. Upon completing her Bachelors she worked in the school system with children who were neurodivergent and had difficulty conforming to academic behavioral expectations. This work led to Stefanie's decision to pursue her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Messiah University.
Stefanie has lived in Alaska for 4 years. Upon arriving in Alaska, she dedicated her career to working with teens in the community that are struggling with trauma and substance misuse. Stefanie is passionate about supporting youth and their families. She specializes in working with neurodiverse children and teens and in treating trauma, anxiety, and depression. She is trained in EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Play Therapy. Stefanie’s primary approach for individual clients is through Adlerian Play therapy, but she describes herself as a “prescriptive play therapist” which allows her to be flexible and meet the child's needs through multiple lenses. Her style of play includes directive and non-directive play therapy, sand tray therapy, movement therapy, social skills, and mindfulness. She incorporates her client's parents in therapy for a family systems approach with the goal of improving familial relationships and behavioral dynamics in the home. She keeps therapy fun and inviting for the client while allowing them space to process their emotions, focuses on developing adaptive coping strategies with her clients, and helps them form healthy relationships in all areas of their lives. She enjoys using expressive therapeutic modalities like art therapy to elicit non-verbal communication of emotions. Stefanie is committed to creating a safe and inviting therapeutic experience for her clients and their families.
After nearly a decade as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and now Clinical Supervisor herself, Stefanie is working on completing her credentialing as a Registered Play Therapist RPT™ under the supervision of Betsy Atkins, LCSW, RPT-S™. She is a member of the Alaska Association of Play Therapy and is committed to consistent and ongoing education and professional development.
Stefanie was born in Tampa, FL where she was immersed in her Spanish culture until she married into the military. Stefanie has been a military wife for 17 years and has been stationed in 4 different states as well as in South Korea. When she is not working with clients, Stefanie enjoys spending time hiking in nature or cuddling up on the couch with a good book.
