Hunter Beck

Master of Clinical Psychology Intern

Pronouns: He/Him

Hunter is a student at the University of Alaska Anchorage completing a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology and obtaining a certificate in Children’s Mental Health. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Children’s Mental Health. Before his graduate studies, Hunter gained valuable experience working as a Registered Behavioral Technician, supporting adolescents with autism as well as adults navigating a wide variety of complex mental health needs.

Hunter was honored to be a student clinician at UAA’s Psychological Services Center. In this setting, he gained supervised experience facilitating individual psychotherapy, couples counseling, and co-leading a psychoeducational Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) group focused on regulating intense emotion. Through these modalities, Hunter deepened his foundational clinical skills, cultivating a deep appreciation for the therapeutic relationship and collaborating with clients to foster meaningful, lasting growth.

Hunter thrives in a team-based approach to care, which drew him to his internship at Coastal Wellness & Counseling. In his foundational work in adolescent behavioral health, he developed a passion for working with children, which was continued with specialized academic training in children’s mental health. He is excited to expand his work with children and family systems at Coastal Wellness and Counseling, surrounded by a robust staff with a diverse set of psychological approaches to learn from.

Hunter integrates a variety of empirically supported interventions into his practice. For individual therapy, he primarily utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) alongside person-centered therapy, while employing the Gottman Method for couples counseling and DBT principles for group work. Blending a strong behavioral background with a humanistic lens, Hunter believes that every individual possesses an inherent capacity for improvement. He recognizes how heavily environmental factors influence mental health and works collaboratively with clients to build supportive internal and external shifts.

In his clinical experience, Hunter has developed a strong passion for working with individuals experiencing eating disorders, deficits in confidence, and body image concerns, as well as those navigating complex grief, guilt, and depressive symptoms. Utilizing an ACT flexibility framework and behavioral activation, Hunter helps clients break through stagnation, build resilience, and actively increase their contact with joy. He leads with unconditional positive regard, balancing a gentle, warm approach with supportive challenges. Hunter hopes clients leave therapy feeling empowered, confident, and deeply aligned with their values.

Hunter is in the final year of completing his master’s degree. Upon graduation, he looks forward to beginning his journey toward full licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
