Pronouns: She/Her

Stefanie Goggins is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor (LPC-S), who has worked in mental health and social work since 2013. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Troy University in 2012. Upon completing her bachelor’s degree she worked in the school system with children who were neurodivergent and had difficulty conforming to academic behavioral expectations. This work led to Stefanie’s decision to pursue her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Messiah University.

Upon arriving in Alaska in 2020, she dedicated her career to working with teens in the community that are struggling with trauma and substance misuse. Stefanie is passionate about supporting youth and their families. She specializes in working with neurodiverse children and teens and in treating trauma, anxiety, and depression. She is trained in EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Play Therapy. Stefanie’s primary approach for individual clients is through Adlerian Play therapy, but she describes herself as a “prescriptive play therapist” which allows her to be flexible and meet the child’s needs through multiple lenses. Her style of play includes directive and non-directive play therapy, sand tray therapy, movement therapy, social skills, and mindfulness. She incorporates her client’s parents in therapy for a family systems approach with the goal of improving familial relationships and behavioral dynamics in the home. She keeps therapy fun and inviting for the client while allowing them space to process their emotions, focuses on developing adaptive coping strategies with her clients, and helps them form healthy relationships in all areas of their lives. She enjoys using expressive therapeutic modalities like art therapy to elicit non-verbal communication of emotions. Stefanie is committed to creating a safe and inviting therapeutic experience for her clients and their families.

Stefanie is a Registered Play Therapist™ and serves on the Board of Directors of the Alaska Association for Play Therapy. She believes in the healing power of play and its ability to help children express themselves, process difficult experiences, develop emotional resilience, and improve self-confidence. She is committed to ongoing education and professional development, continually expanding her knowledge and skills to provide thoughtful, effective, and developmentally appropriate care for the children, parents and families she serves.

Stefanie was born in Tampa, FL where she was immersed in her Spanish culture. For two decades, Stefanie’s family followed a military career through four different states and South Korea. She has enjoyed the opportunity to create a home in Alaska. When she is not working with clients, Stefanie enjoys spending time hiking in nature or cuddling up on the couch with a good book.
